On 25 June 2020, Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma amended the regulations in terms of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (the Regulations) to provide for a further reopening of the economy under Alert Level 3 and to regulate the maintenance and operation of a COVID-19 Database.
Most of the latest amendments are aimed at protecting personal information in the context of collecting data on the transmission of COVID-19, mapping infections and tracing contacts of infected people. However, the amendments also lift certain restrictions on movement of people, places closed to the public, and specific exclusions from economic activity. This note details those amendments likely to be relevant to the business community and Business for SA (B4SA) stakeholders.
